“ ...This is a time to push forward, faster and on all fronts: open up the system, break down its monoliths, put the parent and pupil and patient and law-abiding citizen at the centre of it. We have made great progress. Let us learn the lessons of it not so as to rest on present achievements but to take them to a new and higher level in the future...”

Transformational Government

Transformational Government Annual Report 2007

The Government launched its second report on Transformational Government – our progress in 2007 showing where Government has made progress towards designing and delivering public services around the needs of the citizen.

What is the Service Transformation Agreement?

The agreement sets out an ambitious programme of action that will be the foundation for public services that are more personalised to the needs of citizens and businesses. It places this challenge at the centre of government plans for public service delivery.

Transformational Government Annual Report 2006

The Government launched its progress report on ‘Transformational Government: enabled by technology’ with the news that at least 551 government websites are to be cut to make access to information easier for citizens and businesses.

Implementation plan

The Government has now published an Implementation Plan for the strategy, covering the tasks to be completed by July 2007. The plan describes the actions being taken for each of the workstreams identified in ‘Transformational Government’ and sets out how implementation of the strategy is aligned with the Comprehensive Spending Review.

Transformational local government

Representatives from local government on the Chief Information Officer Council and Service Transformation Board have commissioned a discussion paper on the implications of ‘Transformational Government’ for local government.

Responses to Transformational Government

‘Transformational Government’ invited readers to submit their views on the strategy. We are grateful to all those who submitted a response; many of the views have been reflected in the Implementation Plan or have been referred to the appropriate project team or Department. We have published a summary of responses received.

Strategy

Twenty First Century Government is enabled by technology - policy is inspired by it, business change is delivered by it, customer and corporate services are dependent on it, and democratic engagement is exploring it.  The Prime Minister commissioned 'Transformational Government - Enabled by Technology' to seize the opportunity provided by IT to transform the business of government.  The CIO Council has developed this strategy and will be taking it forward to ensure that the work to transform public services harnesses technology to best advantage and best value for the citizen, businesses, taxpayers and for the front-line worker.
